Keeping Our Self Safe

Today we did keeping ourselves safe as a part of Kaupapa Matua. This term we are focusing on taking action so we met a local education officer Jeff and he taught me about the different types of abuse and how to identify them. How you identify different abuses is kinda like this. Physical abuse it is when you get hit, kicked, slapped and punched, Sexual abuse when someone touches you in privet places without your consent and emotional abuse is when someone is bullying you or hurting your emotions. Verbal abuse is when people hurt you with there words and say bad things to you and cyber bulling is bullying online and make post about you on social media and family violence is abuse that goes on at home. Today with officer Jeff we learned that its never the victim’s fault and we should always report the abuse. Make sure when you in endanger ask someone for help or tell someone you trust about it and how you would know that you trust them is there respectful to you, there good listeners, they’ll believe what you say and they wont tell anyone you don’t want them to. But it was nice learning about those things and it was very helpful too.

Persuasive Writing

This term is about action so we have been doing persuasive writing. This past year we have done 2-3 pieces of writing and i’m going to talk about them.We had to use strong adjectives and strong nouns. But first you always need to do an introduction cause without an introduction you wont know what the subject is about,Then you need about three arguments about the subject and how you disagree with it or how you agree. Then at the end you do an conclusion to recap most of the main thing about your argument. If you want to see my writing here are the links. link 1 . link 2

Simple,Compound,Complex Sentences

Today for writing Whaea Jasmine taught us about sentences and how to use them.First we watched a few videos about simple, compound and complex sentences. One of the videos were pretty strange but then I got the hang of it pretty quickly and now I understand how to do all of the sentences. Here is an example of an simple sentence, Today I went shopping and then you can turn it into compound sentence by saying today I went shopping and then went to the park so its just adding another sentences on.But a complex sentence is pretty different you have to use an dependent sentence and a independent sentence and then connecting it with either because or a , you get to deiced. So a complex sentence looks like this the weather is very sunny today,I love it that is  just an example,But we did that slide show that you have to write 5 simple sentences by 3 pictures and 5 compound sentences and 5 complex sentences if you want to have a look at it you can here is the link.

Peaceful Protest

This term we have been learning about taking action so this week we are doing famous protesters. Whaea Jaz picked us 4 people to do. Whina cooper,Martin Luther king jr, Mahatma Gandhi and Te whiti-o-rongomai. It was interesting to learn about some more new people and get to learn some more things about the people that I know. Whina cooper travelled almost the whole north island and while she was walking people joined her on the walk.Te whiti-o-rongomai fought for maori fights.Martin Luther king jr fought for all black people and there rights and after that he got shot.Mahatma Gandhi made sure his people were safe so he protested very peacefully. So protest dont always have to be harsh it can be peaceful just like what these people did.

How To Write a Song

Kia Ora this term we have been doing action stations and we have been learning how write a song. I’ve learnt how to put a song into a good tune and the right beat.My song was about the maori atua and i didn’t really like it so i might restart.I got the idea just to write a maori song and i was like why not the atua so that’s what i did. I really enjoyed trying to make a song but i didn’t  like listening to matua talk so much.If this was offered again I  would do it and would want to complete it if we had enough time.I was only there for the first section but i did i wee bit of it. I want to complete it in my own time maybe .Im really happy that i chose this and I want to do it again.

Science

Today we did science it was not what we were expecting but we did the skittles experiment we were all asking for skittles and we ended up getting some.We had to use an hypothesis ,method, results and conclusion. But getting back to the experiment we did a plate of hot water and cold. We put the skittles in a circle and poured the water in. When we did the hot water went faster at first but then the cold water went to the middle first we were all surprised but when we tired it again the hot water went way faster that time. They were in the water for a wee while so they lost all there colour and turned white it was a bit interesting but we got the eat them and they tasted the same so they were alright.

Tech

Year 7s and 8s go to this thing called tech and we do things like digitech, woodwork and sewing cooking and ect. Year7s and 8s go in separate groups and year eights have more tech things to do than the year sevens. They only have four classes but we have 5.We go on Thursdays and we go to the old Avonside aka Te Ara Tai. This term I’m doing digitech but last term I did cooking and I liked it but some others not as much. Cooking was easy and I learnt some new things. But this term I have digitech and I’m not really liking it at the moment. We have been making some games and parkour. But yeah tech is pretty good.
